Martello and Ashfield Solutions Announce Strategic Partnership to Enhance Contamination Risk Assessments

Environmental risk consultancy Ashfield Solutions (Ashfield) has partnered with Martello, the fastest growing provider of independent environmental searches for conveyancing professionals in a move to improve the UK’s house and land buying process.

Martello and Ashfield’s collaboration aims to empower conveyancers and homebuyers with expert contamination assessments. It reduces failed reports, fewer “further actions required” by 60% compared to other contaminated land assessments on the market. Ashfield’s “line of evidence” approach means that they can confidently and systematically pass more reports, then an environmental consultant who has obtained documents that the conveyancer, and their clients normally must collect.

Our solution gives the conveyancer increased clarity – we basically do all the work, so they don’t have to! All questions are covered meaning it’s one of the most comprehensive reports on the market.

This partnership aims to speed up sales by giving conveyancers a concise and in-depth report using Martello’s technology, backed up with Ashfield’s in-depth expert analysis. All the necessary search and risk information can be triaged and provided in one complete and concise report. This reduces any additional searches to be undertaken by the conveyancer, saving valuable time and delivered in the same day.

Oliver Baldock Director at Ashfield said: “When buying a property, it’s crucial that any risks present are identified and thoroughly investigated during the conveyancing process.  Investigating contamination is an important area of investigation when undergoing due diligence. Working closely with the team at Martello we’re delighted to deliver what we believe will be a market-leading solution for conveyancers in these two areas ensuring compliance with Law Society practice notes and Guidance on Climate Risks.

“With the base rate reducing for the first time in four years we may see increased demand in the housing market and conveyancers are already fully stretched. Our solution is looking to transform environmental risk management. Our solution gives the conveyancer increased clarity – we basically do all the work, so they don’t have to! All questions are covered meaning it’s one of the most comprehensive reports on the market.”

Dr Henry Crosby, Co-Founder and CEO at Martello added: “We are excited to collaborate with Ashfield Solutions to bring a higher level of precision and reliability to contamination assessments in the conveyancing process. Together, we are failing fewer reports, saving conveyancers from collecting additional documents, and providing indemnified peace of mind for conveyancers and homebuyers alike. This is taking our offering to another level using our combined expertise to deliver what we believe is a market-leading solution.”

Martello and Ashfield are taking a significant step forward in safeguarding property transactions from environmental risks at no extra cost or effort to the conveyancer. By conducting comprehensive checks, including planning records and local authority consultations, the partnership ensures clients are fully aware of any contamination liabilities. Their combined expertise simplifies the process, removes additional steps for the conveyancer and enhances the transparency of land use and contamination risks across England and Wales.

Martello’s team is led by co-founders Dr Henry Crosby and Adam Rogers who boast an established team with a background in geospatial engineers, environmental consultation, conveyancing and data design. Ashfield is a multi-disciplinary environmental risk consultancy who are experienced in fully understanding the complexities that can emerge from purchasing property and land. The team focus on environmental risk for all sizes of residential, commercial properties and construction developments.
